Tahiti – for a long time Little Ibex’ synonym for Pacific Islands

May 2022 – In the morning hours Little Ibex sails behind the reef surrounding Tahiti and instantly entered city life again. Before she found a place to anchor, she was asked by traffic control to stop the sailboat and give way to a large airplane (!) that crosses the shipping lane. What an entry into Tahiti!

Very fast she understood that she is on an island with many people. Recreational motor vessels are stored in shelfs, cruiseships are docked in the harbor, the main market has an abundance of fruits and vegetables, holy water can be taken from a dispenser and houses are decorated with colorful painting.

Tahiti is a French territory with Polynesian culture. People speak French and / or Polynesian (some also English). Traditional fishing is still taking place and ancient cultural sites can be found as well as evidence of the first European seafarer that arrived a few hundred years ago.

Being a mountain animal Little Ibex is just drawn to the lush green mountains with clouds always hanging low and water falls constantly running. What a nurturing place for her after so many flat atolls.

Looking down from the mountains Little Ibex sees the reef around Tahiti, the capital Papeete and Moorea, her next destination, in the background.

Back on the boat she enjoys the sun set.

And sees a moon that seems to be as bright as the sun on a hazy day.
