little ibex goes French – third stop Marie Galante

Next stop in Guadeloupe is St Louise on Marie Galante. It is quite a rough ride against the wind with high waves, and she decides to use the iron horse instead of sailing on the wind. While Iles des Saintes sees many day visitors from “mainland” Guadeloupe, Marie Galante is more laid back.

For many decades sugar cane has dominated life on the island. Little ibex visits historic windmill sites. And a visit to a rum distillery is a must. She does not tell how many different types of rum she has “sampled”.

The mandatory hike turned out to be a rather a walk through mangroves. But one has to be careful as there are dangerous turtles crossings.
